Character Development
What I feel that makes a great movie is the character development that creates a bond with the audience, watching the character as he/she changes through the movie by their actions. For example, in the movie My Way(2011), a korean war movie set during WWII, the character Jong-Dae starts off as the protagonist’s clumsy best friend during the course of the movie they are forced to go to war. After a series of events Jong-Dae becomes a colonel of the Soviet Union and his hatred of Japs causes him to become heartless from a once comical personality, which I saw was a drastic change in character and what made this a pretty good movie.
Special Effects
What also makes a great movie is the amazing visual effects used to dramatize action scenes and key events. For example, a great movie that makes use of VFX, Inception(2010) uses vfx to visualize the subconscious mind showing how the world can change.
making it visually stunning and let’s the audience be more engaged in the film.
Script/Acting

I agree with your ideas on great films. Character development is always important in movies especially in Dramas and Action. Also special effects like in Inception are really astounding, but sometimes a movie doesn't need special effects to make a good movie like 50/50. Lastly, I love that you used Charlie Chaplin's Dictator speech as a example of Script Writing and Acting. He did an absolutely great job and if you would like to see good acting and script writing, I would suggest Pulp Fiction, The Godfather, or the show Southland.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely true about character development, my favorite demonstration was in Chronicle where the main character turned from an oppressed bullying victim into a psychopathic aggressive teen with a god complex due to his powers.
